Flexible Printed Circuit Board for Electrothermal Conversion of Copper Heating Element

一.Product Overview of Flexible Printed Circuit Board for Electrothermal Conversion of HighPurity Copper Heating Element

1. Product Introduction

The flexible printed circuit board for electrothermal conversion of highpurity copper heating element is a bendable core circuit carrier board manufactured with flexible materials and fullprocess circuitboard fabrication technology. It features moderate thermal conductivity and is tailored for mediumandlowpower electrothermal conversion applications.

As a heating assembly with etched highpurity copper circuits, the copper heating element generates heat when electric current flows through resistive etched copper traces. Kinetic energy produced by collisions between electrons and material atoms/lattices is converted into thermal energy, heating up the conductive material and realizing efficient electrothermal energy conversion.

Fabricated from FPCB materials including multilayer PI films, electroplating/etching chemicals, stacked metal layers and multilayer bonding adhesives via sophisticated circuitboard processes, this copper heating element suffers noticeable degradation in thermal conductivity yet delivers excellent electrical conductivity. Compared with heating elements made of other materials, its electrothermal conversion efficiency is moderate.

Benefiting from excellent dimensional and performance consistency of FCCL flexible copperclad laminates as well as high precision of FPCB process control, the flexible printed circuit board for highpuritycopper electrothermal conversion circuit achieves outstanding consistency in heating performance.

2. Product Features

(1) Mechanical and Physical Properties The heating element adopts a sophisticated multilayer laminated structure produced by fullprocess circuitboard material technology. It is composed of highpurity copper (Cu), polyimide (PI) base material, bonding adhesive and insulating PI cover film. Thanks to this multilayer composite lamination, the heating element delivers properties including high insulation, high flexibility, low expansion coefficient, ultrathin flat profile and uniform thickness.

(2) Thermal Conductivity and Electrothermal Conversion Efficiency Bare highpurity copper conductor features excellent thermal conductivity. Nevertheless, after special treatment of FCCL (Flexible CopperClad Laminate) and subsequent fullprocess FPCB manufacturing, the electrothermal conversion efficiency of the copper heating element decreases substantially, resulting in increased electric energy loss. Benefiting from uniform serpentine trace layout and highprecision etching control for trace width and trace spacing, the heating element achieves superior consistency in thermalconductivity performance. (Electrothermal conversion efficiency can be greatly improved by optimizing PCB circuit design.)

3. Product Technical Support

(1) Specialized Material Technology To meet the hightemperature operating requirements for electrothermal conversion of highpurity copper heating elements, compatibilityoptimized technology is adopted for highthermalconductivity flexible substrates and highpurity copper conductors. It guarantees bonding performance among conductors, substrates and thermosetting adhesives, and matches the coefficient of thermal expansion of the circuit board. The board dimensional change rate is controlled at ≤0.04%, solving the problems of delamination and adhesive separation of conventional flexible circuit boards under hightemperature conditions.

In addition, all materials are certified compliant with RoHS and REACH, satisfying hazardoussubstance control standards for both civil and industrialgrade applications and ensuring environmental compliance of the product.

(2) Specialized Process Technology Inspection nodes are set for key processes including electroplating, pattern transfer, etching, lamination and surface treatment. AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) and other inspection equipment are deployed to accurately detect defects such as irregular trace width & spacing and conductor thickness unevenness as well as delamination, achieving a defect detection rate of ≥99.6%.

In the finalinspection phase, electrical performance tests (openshort test, insulation resistance test and power transmission test) are combined with environmental reliability tests (temperature cycling test, hightemperature aging test and vibration test). This ensures the product is applicable to longterm hightemperature operating scenarios for highpurity copper heating elements and complies with relevant industry standards.

(3) ComponentOriented Technology: Electrothermal Conversion Circuit Simulation Based on Joule’s Law, heat is generated when electric current flows through the circuit resistance of the flexible heating element. Total heat = specific heat capacity × mass × temperature variation; (Where: Q = heat, I = electric current, R = resistance of heating element, t = electrification time).

Circuitboard design optimization and process correction technologies are applied to guarantee the consistency and relative criteria of electrothermal conversion efficiency or temperature rise performance.

4. Basic Product Manufacturing Process

In compliance with stringent standards for midtohighend electrothermal conversion circuit boards, fullprocess refined control is implemented. The core manufacturing procedures are as follows: Material preparation (highpurity copper conductor + flexible substrate) → Drilling → Pattern Transfer → Etching (controlling thickness of highpurity copper conductor) → Coverfilm Lamination → Laminating Press (optimizing thermal conductivity performance) → Surface Treatment (antioxidation / immersion gold) → Openshort Circuit Test → Marking → Profile Machining → Wire Soldering → Functional Test → Performance Evaluation → Final Inspection, to ensure products meet quality requirements.
